Proverbs of Purgatory – Reflections on Waldorf Teaching
An illustrated booklet by Waldorf high school English teacher John Wulsin, offering concise, thought-provoking reflections on the inner life and vocation of the Waldorf teacher. Written with humor and moral clarity, these aphoristic “proverbs” explore the paradoxes, struggles, and quiet revelations that arise when teaching is approached as a spiritual and human calling.
With a subtle homage to William Blake’s Proverbs of Hell, Wulsin’s observations balance wit and compassion, illuminating the lived realities of Waldorf education without sentimentality. Each reflection invites recognition, self-examination, and renewed resolve.
This booklet is especially meaningful for Waldorf teachers, teacher trainees, mentors, and anyone interested in the spiritual dimensions of education, pedagogy, and the art of teaching.
